Freedom Front Plus latest to join GNU
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The Freedom Front Plus on Thursday became the latest political party to join the government of national unity.

The party says their decision to join the GNU comes after careful consideration as to how the party could help restore and rebuild South Africa.
The FF Plus obtained 1.36% of votes in the 2024 general elections.
After the May 29 elections, the ANC was forced to form alliances with other political parties after failing to win the outright majority for the first time since 1994. This led to President Cyril Ramaphosa calling for the government of national unity.
The government of national unity is now made up of seven political parties, including the ANC, DA, IFP, PAC, Patriotic Alliance, GOOD party as well as the FF Plus.
Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald says they will use this opportunity to implement and promote the party's policy and its voters' mandate to save South Africa from ruin.
"Being part of the GNU enables the party to participate in processes such as the national dialogue organised as part of the GNU's activities.
"The party will seize this opportunity to contribute to the drafting of better policy directions to get South Africa back on the right track. The party will play its part in ensuring stability in the country and considers it its duty to contribute in this way".
Groenewald added that the country must get on the road to economic recovery as soon as possible.
"The opportunity afforded by participating in the GNU will also be used to ensure accountability to the people of South Africa through fully restoring Parliament's role.
"Parliament's role as an institution tasked with effectively overseeing the executive authority and holding it accountable, without favouring any single party, must be restored.”
