On Wednesday, Pretoria is expected to reach a maximum of 15°C, while Vereeniging will only peak at 11°C, eMalahleni is forecast to hit 12°C, and Nelspruit is expected to be warmer at 18°C.

"If you’ll be in Gauteng, it will be cold," said South African Weather Service forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela.

Warmer temperatures are expected in parts of Limpopo, with Phalaborwa set to reach 26°C.

Thobela says the weather is expected to gradually improve by Thursday.

Temperatures in Gauteng will start rising, with Pretoria reaching 19°C and Johannesburg possibly peaking at 17 to 18°C.

"Temperatures start to pick up from tomorrow (Thursday) in the afternoon, Pretoria’s maximum may also reach 19 degrees, as well as in Vereeniging," Thobela said.

The weekend is expected to remain cool across the northeastern provinces, although no rainfall is expected.

Snowfall, however, is predicted to continue over high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape, Drakensberg, and Lesotho until Thursday morning.

The northeastern provinces are not expected to see any snow, just cold temperatures through the evening of Wednesday.

"No snow is expected for the northeastern provinces, just temperatures expected to still drop this evening, which is Wednesday, the 21st of May," Thobela confirmed.
