Gauteng ANCYL wants R1bn for youth panel

The ANC Youth League in Gauteng has demanded that R1 billion be allocated to establish a Youth Advisory Panel.

Briefing the media in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the league's provincial chairperson, Ntsako Mogobe, said the panel would conduct “groundbreaking research, launch impactful initiatives, and drive youth-focused programmes that deliver tangible change”.
He said the R1 billion would transform the lives of South Africa’s young people.
“Furthermore, we call for the immediate establishment of the youth directorate in all municipalities, each with its own budget,” said Mogobe.
“We refuse to wait any longer for the implementation of structures that are meant to prioritise the youth. We demand that young people be given strategic positions like members of the mayoral committee and mayorship across the province.”
Mogobe bemoans the underfunding of youth programmes in Gauteng, saying it has reduced young people “to picking up dirt”.
“The youth of Gauteng demand and deserve nothing less than well-funded and powerful institutions that secure their future.”
“The Youth League in Gauteng also calls for a youth development fund and an integrated youth development dashboard where we will create a live public provincial dashboard that tracks youth program budgets, implementation and progress because transparency will now be non-negotiable,” said Mogobe.
According to the latest figures from Statistics South Africa, unemployment has reached a staggering 60% among young people aged 15 to 24.
