A 46-year-old police sergeant from the Olivenhoutbosch police station in Centurion has been arrested for the attempted murder of his girlfriend in Bakenburg outside Mokopane in Limpopo.

Police say the cop allegedly lost his temper when the victim failed to respond, despite him repeatedly knocking on her door.
He then allegedly set alight the curtains, burning down the two-room shack.
Provincial police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said the victim was rescued by her neighbours, who called the police and ambulance.
“The suspect, who is alleged to be her boyfriend, was traced and arrested the following day. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been notified for further handling," said Ledwaba.
The police officer will appear at the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court on Monday.
