The Department of Education in Gauteng says it has placed over 325,000 pupils for Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the next academic year through the online admission system.

The department has received over 344,000 applications for public schools in the province since the start of applications.
About 20,000 incomplete applications still need to be processed.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane briefed the media at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen in Alberton on Monday.
"The work that we've done so far, and this I'm happy to talk about because we are in a better position than we have ever been since we started with online placement.
"I know that there will be people who are questioning here and there, but in terms of grade one, we have placed all the completed applications.
"When you are incomplete, we didn't place you. We can't place a person that we don't know.
"This means we have 8,379 incomplete applications. We're talking about the 157,406, and we have placed all of them in Grade 1.
"In Grade 8, we are left with 124 only out of the total of 168,452. We are left with 124 to place, so we are almost done.”
Chiloane said the department will consider late applications for school placements from 11 December 2024 until 30 January 2025.
"These 19,000, they're going to have to go and choose schools there. They're only going to choose schools that are available. Parents are urged to accept what is available on the system."
