This follows claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi earlier this month that some metro and SAPS police officers were compromised.

Lesufi was briefing the media in Johannesburg on Thursday.

In his explosive presser, Mkhwanazi alleged that members of Parliament, metro police, Correctional Services, and police are linked to a criminal syndicate operating between Gauteng and KZN.

Premier Lesufi says he has already been briefed by Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni on the allegations and will assist the inquiry together with the three metro police departments of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane.

"We want to prepare thoroughly, but most importantly, we want to ensure that the Commission achieves its objective of getting the evidence that is needed or is looking for. But also of getting the information on whether these allegations are true and whether even within our province, we've got rogue elements that are conniving with syndicates that are helping to perpetuate crime in our province."

"We will be ready to cooperate with the Commission and provide valuable information to the Commission."

Lesufi says the provincial government will make the information shared with the commission public as soon as it is permitted to do so.

The Commission is expected to present its preliminary report back to the President in the next three to six months.
