Gauteng health CFO, Tembisa hospital CEO suspended

The Gauteng Provincial Government has placed the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Gauteng Department of Health and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital on precautionary suspension effective from Friday.

This after whistleblower Babita Deokaran was gunned down in her driveway in August 2021 after exposing fraud and corruption at the Gauteng Department of Health.
In a statement, the Gauteng Department of Health, confirmed that the two officials are placed on suspension to ensure that their presence in the office does not impede the investigation of the serious allegations pertaining to the improper procurement and payment of service providers at Tembisa Hospital.
Gauteng Premier spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga says the premier has welcomed the suspensions and confirmed that the Gauteng government has referred the matter to the Special Investigating Unit for forensic investigation on an urgent basis.
"The Head of Department has also opened a criminal case with the South African Police Service,” says Mhaga, explaining that she had allegedly received threats relating to the matter.
Makhura says all those who plotted and killed Deokaran will be brought to book.
“We want the corrupt in government and their cahoots in the private sector to face the consequences of their evil deeds,” he said.
