Gauteng receives 14k late placement applications
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane on Wednesday said the department has received over 14 000 late applications for placements at schools across the province.

Hundreds of parents flocked to schools in attempt to secure last-minute enrolment for their children.
Chiloane officially opened the Braamfischer Primary School in Soweto on day one of the new academic year.
The department has so far placed over 325,000 new applications as schools reopened on Wednesday.
Attempts to rename the school to Joe Mpisi Primary was met with opposition from community members - with the school later renamed Braamfischer.
"There was an incident that took place where some members of the community tried to vandalize,
but they just removed the name, and that it's quite reckless and unnecessary, and it will get them arrested,” Chiloane said.
"Also, there was concerns of the family that we experienced, and we spoke to the family, and they are fine. It's just that now the time is against us, so we just have to proceed to call it Braamfischer and it will remain as such.”
Chiloane assured the Soweto parents that all children will be placed.
"The only issue is those who have appealed and those who don't want the schools that we have offered.
"That's where we are having a challenge. But also now, we've also got late applications. We're sitting at just above 14,000.
"And the big challenge is that some of these parents come late, apply, and the system, when you apply late, it gives you the schools that are available.
"They take that school, and then they go to the district to demand a different school.” he added.
