Gautrain hopes to avoid strike
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Management of Gauteng's speed train, Gautrain and representatives of the United National Transport Union (UNTU) are locked in wage talks.

Gautrain's operating company, Bombela, and UNTU returned to the negotiating table on Thursday afternoon, two days after the union issued a strike notice.
According to Gautrain spokesperson, Kesagee Nayager, wage negations will continue over the weekend in a bid to prevent the strike by hundreds of workers.

"If no settlement is reached, the strike will unfortunately commence on Monday in which case we will likely operate a reduced Gautrain train service combined with a bus service, depending on available resources."
Employees are demanding a 10% increase, while Bombela is offering workers 8.5%.
Nayager says they will know by Sunday afternoon whether the workers will go ahead with their strike on Monday morning.
