GDE receives over 600k online applications for Grade 1 & 8
The Gauteng Department of Education says it had received more than 600,000 online applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8.
The online portal opened last month and will close 29 August.
Over 254,000 applications are for Grade 1, while Grade 8 applications stood at 346,000.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said parents requiring help can visit their nearest district office or decentralised walk-in centres across the province.
"Parents are advised to apply to a minimum of thre,e and a maximum of five schools to increase the likelihood of successful placement,"
"It is also essential to provide a valid cell phone number, as all communication, including placement offers, will be sent via SMS. Applicants with complete submissions will begin receiving placement offers from 16 October 2025."
