Gordhan: Eskom roadmap to be implemented this year
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says government will implement the Eskom roadmap this year.

Gordhan made the comments at the Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) bargaining conference in Kempton Park on Tuesday.
“Last year we published as government the Eskom road map paper.
“If we ask the questions such as how is Eskom going to be restructured what are the tentative timelines that we are talking about what does it actually involve, it’s in the paper,” he said.
Government has announced plans to unbundle the power utility into generation, transmission and distribution divisions, something which has left trade unions hot under the collar.

Gordhan also assured civil servants that they will continue to receive salaries, so there is no reason not to support the government’s efforts to turn the state-owned entities around.
“The only way is to do the things that we have outlined earlier on, working collectively in order to understand the kind of damage that has been done to these institutions and agree that there is a roadmap to fix it, reform it and restructure it and get clear consensus.”
