A collision between a bus and a cash-in-transit van in Limpopo on Tuesday claimed the lives of 21 people.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani confirmed the number of deaths during her visit to hospitals where the patients were admitted on Tuesday.
The bus had collided with a cash- in-transit van on the N1 outside Makhado in Vhembe District.
The accident claimed 19 lives on the scene and two more commuters lost their lives in hospital.
Radzilani has stated that she will ensure that victims are assisted when claiming for the Road Accident Fund, her spokesperson Vongani Chauke said on Wednesday.
“For her part, the MEC has committed that she will endeavour to ensure that her department expedites the conclusion of the accident report so that the victims can make claims with the Road Accident Fund.”
Speaking to the SABC, Makhado Mayor Samuel Munyai said investigations into the accident are ongoing.
“What we are hearing here from the survivors of the bus accident is very much pathetic, we are hearing this for the first time that the bus driver was overtaking a truck and then in that process he collided with the incoming vehicle and then it was reported that it was not for the first time that the driver was not doing things very well so we need to take it up and our investigations are ongoing and I think drastic measures will be taken in due course.”
Meanwhile, speaking to the media during a hospital visit, the Transport Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga stated that the investigation will also look into whether if the bus was roadworthy.
“The investigation will look into the road worthiness of the bus because even after the accident you are able to even see the tires whether they were proper or not. We will also get information from the investigators to see who was in the wrong between the bus driver and the cash van.”
