Deputy President Paul Mashatile said government will assist the victims of the floods in the Eastern Cape.

Over 70 people have been confirmed dead after storms lashed the province this week.
The death toll from the devastating floods in the Eastern Cape has risen to 71 as search and rescue operations continue.
Torrential rains and freezing temperatures struck the Eastern Cape on Monday, causing major flooding and landslides that submerged houses.
Images showed homes completely under water and rescuers wading through the mud. Power and water supplies have been affected, and hundreds have been forced to relocate.
Mashatile spoke in parliament on Thursday.
“On behalf of the government, let me join those who’ve extended condolences to the families of the people affected by disasters in the Eastern Cape," he said.
"Our hearts are with you. Government will do everything in its power to assist you."
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit the Mthatha area on Friday to assess the damage.
