On Thursday, reports emerged that a second suspect, who is allegedly a Pakistani spaza owner, had been arrested after he was implicated by another suspect in the case.

The claims emanated from a statement issued by Johannesburg Safety MMC, Mgcini Tshwaku, in which he “confirmed” the claim, adding that Johannesburg metro police officers had been deployed to Durban Deep to maintain calm.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an unrelated event, Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni dismissed reports of any new developments in the case.

In a brief response to Jacaranda FM News’s media inquiry, Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said they were only aware of one suspect, and he had already appeared in court.

Mduduzi Mnisi (39) appeared briefly before the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where his matter was postponed until 18 June.

Fose’s lifeless body was found dumped in the veld in Durban Deep, Roodepoort, earlier this month.

The police’s occult unit was roped in after it was found that the 14-year-old’s genitals had been removed.

Meanwhile, Tshwaku joined JMPD and SAPS officers in the area to address tensions sparked by the misinformation that was being spread about the case.

The MMC said they were there to “ensure public safety, as opportunistic criminal elements attempt to exploit the situation”.
