Gauteng police are on the lookout for suspects behind the murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, whose body was found in Durban Deep, on the West Rand.

Fose's murder comes as the country laments the ongoing gender-based violence and femicide crisis, following the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale in Johannesburg last week.

The grim discovery also happens days before the fifth anniversary of the murder of Tshegofatso Pule, whose lifeless body was found hanging from a tree, also in Durban Deep.
She was eight months pregnant at the time.

At the same time, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has reacted with sadness to news of the teenager’s death.
The department released a statement after education officials visited the family on Monday.
Fose was a grade 8 pupil at the Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville.
“The Gauteng Education Department has urgently deployed its Psycho-Social Support Unit at Ikusasalethu Secondary School to provide extensive counselling and trauma support to learners and teachers who may have been affected by this tragic incident,” said spokesperson Steve Mabona.
The department has joined the voices condemning GBV+F, adding that it is the collective duty of all South Africans to ensure that children are protected.
