Guns, counterfeit goods seized in Joburg CBD raid
Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
Police in the Johannesburg CBD arrested one suspect for the possession of unlicensed firearms during a raid for counterfeit goods on Wednesday.

Several counterfeit goods were also recovered during the raid.
This is the second attempt by police to raid the area in a joint operation with a number of law enforcement agencies.
"We have been successful in finding hidden loot. In one building only we were able to find a large confinement of counterfeit goods on the 12th floor. Conveniently the lifts were not working and I think maybe whoever thought we would not be able to walk up the stairs," says Gauteng police spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters.

"He could not provide licences for the firearms and claimed that they were for a security company he worked for. Those firearms have been taken in and they will be subjected for ballistic testing."

Last week police officers were met with resistance from vendors resulting in violent clashes.
Police vehicles were stoned by the vendors, with police deciding to retreat rather than engage the angry mob.
