Gwarube succeeds Motshekga as DA gets 12 cabinet posts

Siviwe Gwarube, a DA member of Parliament, has taken over as the new Minister of Basic Education, succeeding the ANC's Angie Motshekga.

Motshekga has been appointed as the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans in the latest executive appointments announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa announced the new cabinet on Sunday evening following days of negotiations with partners in the government of national unity.
In a significant development for the DA, the party secured 12 cabinet positions.
Solly Malatsi, the party spokesperson, now heads the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies.
John Steenhuisen, the party leader, assumes the role of Minister of Agriculture.
Dean Macpherson has been appointed as Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, while Leon Schreiber takes charge as the Minister of Home Affairs, and Dion George leads the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment.
The DA also secured six deputy minister roles across various portfolios:
Ashor Sarupen is the Deputy Minister of Finance.
Samantha Graham-Maré has been appointed Deputy Minister of Energy and Electricity.
Jane Sithole serves as the Deputy Minister of Small Business Development.
Dr. Mimmy Gondwe assumes the role of Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
Andrew Whitfield is the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition.
Sello Seitlholo has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation.
