Hawks arrest man for making threats against Ramaphosa

The Hawks have arrested a man in Germiston, Gauteng, for making threats against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The 28-year-old suspect was nabbed by the Hawks’ Crime Against The State (CATS) unit on Friday.

Earlier this month, the suspect allegedly sent a voice message to a CEO of a Cape Town-based company threatening his family and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

The reasons behind the threats are not yet known.

"The matter was reported to the Cape Town-based Hawks’ CATS team, which conducted a swift investigation resulting in the suspect’s apprehension in Gauteng." Hawks national spokesperson Thandi Mbambo

The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

"The suspect will be transported to Cape Town, where he will face a charge of intimidation."
