Hawks head Lebeya bows out after 7 years at the helm

The national head of the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations, better known as the Hawks, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, ends his tenure on Saturday.

The DPCI is a branch in the South African Police Service, that was established in 2008 to replace the Scorpions.
In previous interviews, Lebeya lamented the staff exodus and vacant posts in the directorate but said he was pleased with the unit’s work under his leadership.
A legacy report detailing Lebeya’s tenure will be delivered at a media briefing and farewell event, which took place in Pretoria on Saturday.
