Hawks raid MTN, Webber Wentzel
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
The elite investigating unit confirmed on Monday that officers raided the mobile giant and law firm last week.

In an investigation into alleged bribes paid by MTN to Iranian government officials, members of the Hawks last week conducted raids at the telecommunications giant's head offices, as well as at the offices of the well-known law firm, Webber Wentzel.
The investigation relates to a dispute between the Iranian operator Turkcell and MTN.
Webber Wentzel acts as MTN's attorneys.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says a whistleblower informed authorities that Turkcell was nominated to run a Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) network.
Mulaudzi explains "the nomination was then reversed" and given to MTN.
He says a number of documents and electronic equipment were seized.
