Hawks now also probing Chidimma Adetshina nationality saga
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs heard on Tuesday that two of the department’s officials are under investigation in the Chidimma Adetshina saga.

Questions about the Miss South Africa finalist’s nationality prompted the department to launch an investigation, which found prima facie evidence of fraud and identity theft involving her mother.
Adetshina, who later withdrew from the pageant, claimed that she was born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a Zulu mother with “strong Mozambican roots”.
The Deputy Director General for Counter Corruption and Security at Home Affairs, Advocate Constance Moitse, told MPs on Tuesday that three officials were involved in the registration of Adetshina's mother as a South African.
One of the officials has since passed away.

Moitse said the department had issued Adetshina’s mother with a Promotion of Administrative Justice Act letter.
“Her response to this letter will determine the final decision that the department will take in relation to the ID she is currently carrying.
"The ongoing investigation of the department is also looking at other areas that are important for the fair and accurate conclusion of this case.
"The department's investigation is at an advanced stage. This investigation now includes the involvement of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks),” she added.
