Health Department reports decline in cholera cases

The Department of Health has reported a decline in cholera cases on Wednesday, with only one confirmed positive case recorded during the past 10 days.

Gauteng has been the epicentre of the highly infectious water-borne bacterial disease, with a total of 176 cases, mostly from Hammanskraal near Tshwane.
This is followed by Free State with 11, North West with six, Limpopo with four and Mpumalanga with one case.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 198 on Wednesday.
Department spokesperson Foster Mohale has urged the public to continue exercising personal hygiene to curb the spread of cholera.
“In terms of mortality rate, a total cumulative number of deaths related to cholera outbreak (both suspected and confirmed) stands at 47 as of Tuesday, 04 Juy 2023, and 4 new suspected deaths have been recorded (all in Free State) since the last reporting on Sunday, 25 June."
