Several roads were flooded and homes damaged amid the heavy rains in the North West.

The damage comes amid an Orange level 5 warning by the South African Weather Service for disruptive rainfall over Gauteng, North West, and the northeastern parts of Free State.
Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs said on Wednesday that an assessment has been done to determine the extent of the damage.
The department’s Thebeetsile Keameditse said temporary structures and social relief packages will be provided to the affected families.
“Affected families will receive food parcels, blankets and mattresses. The department of CoGTA, through the provincial disaster management centre, is working with municipalities to coordinate social relief for affected houses.”
Most of the affected structures were mudhouses.
Keameditse also warned that roads outside Mahikeng towards Setlagole, Koster and Rustenburg were flooded.
“These include N18 outside Mahikeng towards Setlagole, N12 near Stilfontein, R30 between Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp, R503 at Hartbeesfontein, N4 near Dinokana, N14 between Sannieshof and Delareyville and on towards Vryburg, R52 between Koster and Lichtenburg, N14 near Coligny, R509 between Koster and Magaliesberg, R30 between Derby and Ventersdorp and R52 between Koster and Rustenburg.”
Keameditse added that disaster management teams will remain on high alert as more rain is expected to fall over the next couple of days.
