Helen Joesph water pressure resolved
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The issue of low water pressure at Helen Joseph Hospital has been resolved after an open valve fault was fixed.

The hospital had been battling with low water pressure since the weekend affecting the emergency department, intensive care unit and some wards.
Water supply was improved on Tuesday afternoon following the outcome of a joint investigation by technicians from the Department of Infrastructure Development, Johannesburg Water and HJH Facility Management Unit.
Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says preliminary investigations identified the cause of the low water pressure
“An open valve within the ringfeed of the hospital had to be closed as it was creating a negative pressure, meaning that water was no longer being pushed into the hospital network, this resulted in the low pressure to the hospital tanks.
“The water pressure increased immediately after the main valve was closed. Subsequently water has been restored in all the areas of the hospital.”
On Tuesday evening the water level at the hospital reservoir was at 80% and expected to reach 100% capacity over overnight.
Modiba says a water pumping truck from Johannesburg Water will continue to be stationed on site as a precautionary measure.
All healthcare services in the facility are expected to normalise within the next 24 hours.
