Union: Helen Joseph Hospital problems due to poor governance
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) has blamed poor governance for some of the problems at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg.

On Sunday, the Gauteng Department of Health moved to refute claims of a backlog in unprocessed bodies at the hospital’s morgue due to a shortage of printer cartridges to print the necessary documentation.
However, the department confirmed that the issues were due to delayed payment processing to two service providers earlier this month.
Denosa’s Gauteng secretary, Bongani Mazibuko, said this type of issue impacts service delivery.
"It's a pure issue of poor governance; there's no stability in the hospital's management.
"So in our view, you will not be able to get the facility right until you get to a point where you've appointed permanent people and they know what they're doing."
Mazibuko said one printer cartridge is used for multiple services, which results in other services not being catered for
"What we've established is that apparently there's only one printer cartridge available to the whole hospital at a time, and it is supposed to cater for nursing, procurement, and all these other departments within a short space of time. It cannot work like that. It affects service delivery."
