The Department of Home Affairs will be deploying additional staff during the Easter holiday period.

Minister Siyabonga Cwele said his department will deploy close to 237 staff members at the country’s various ports of entry.
Cwele was speaking at the Home Affairs offices in Pretoria on Wednesday morning.
Working hours will also be increased at selected ports of entry.
“All departments and agencies have provided for officials at ports of entry to work overtime in order to deal with the expected increase in traveller movement and to avoid congestion,” Cwele explained.
He said an integrated operational plan for the border operations will be implemented from this coming Tuesday to deal with any possible criminality.

“We aims to ensure that services are delivered at ports of entry where legitimate people and goods are allowed to enter and depart the country.”
In 2018, some 1.2 million travellers moved the country’s borders during the Easter period.
One out of the four of those were South Africans.
Cwele reiterated that the department is ready for the Easter period and will be working hand-in-hand with law enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety.
