The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has received an official request from the organisers of Miss South Africa to enquire into the citizenship of Miss SA contestant Chidima Adetshina in the upcoming event.

The Miss SA final is expected to take place during a glamorous ceremony at the Sun bet Arena in Tshwane on Saturday.
The request comes amid a heated debate over Adetshina’s participation in the Miss SA pageant.
The 23-year-old finalist is said to have been born in Soweto to a Mozambican mother and a Nigerian father.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber says the request included consent from the affected individuals.
"On the basis of this voluntarily request and the required consent, we are working to verify and compile the required information.
"Prior to this request, the Department had not received any complaint about the matter.
"In all that we do, we are guided by the rule of law. If transgressions are found in this case, they will be handled in strict accordance with legal prescripts.
"If not, we will accordingly inform the requesters. We will also keep the public informed on the outcome of the assessment."
Schreiber urged the public to send any related evidence to the department.
"Cleaning up Home Affairs to enable it to play its rightful role in national security and economic growth is an enormous task that will require collaboration with the public.
"I urge anyone with evidence of malfeasance to contact our dedicated Counter-Corruption Unit at [email protected]. "
