Horror Limpopo crash claims nine lives, four children among the dead

Nine people have been killed in a head-on collision on the N1 highway between Mokopane and Mookgophong in Limpopo early on Saturday morning.

The province’s transport and community safety department says preliminary investigations revealed the driver of a Toyata Venture lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.
According to the department, all the deceased were traveling in the Venture, including four children aged between two and 12 years old.
The spokesperson for the department, Mafenya Lediga, cites a tyre burst as the possible cause of the accident.
"The department calls on all motorists to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles before taking long trips and to always stay within the speed limit," says Lediga.
The road is currently open for traffic.
