How much Parliament's Class of 2019 will earn
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The incoming members of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces started arriving at Parliament on Monday morning.

They will be sworn in as legislators on Wednesday and Thursday following the May 8th general elections.
The African National Congress'(ANC) won the elections with 57,5%.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) came in second with 20,78% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 10,79%.
A typical Member of Parliament (MP) receives a very competitive salary, says independent political analyst Theo Venter.
"Each MP receives a salary of between R800 000 and R1 m a year."
However, Venter says that is without the added benefits that includes subsidised housing in the Western Cape, as well as subsidised meals and travel between Parliament and their homes.
Venter adds we should take cognisance that certain MPs - such as the chief whips - earn more than the other members of Parliament.
"Certain parliamentary members earn more when you are a chief whip or you got some committee appointment, your salary is a little bit higher," says Venter.
Politicians who have served more than two tenures in Parliament also qualify for a lifetime pension.
"It is a pension based on years of service. There are several people I think of. Koos van der Merwe that served 37 years as a member of parliament, I can think of Mangosuthu Buthelezi that has been in parliament since 1994 or Bantu Holomisa. I think if they retire, they will get a pension that will last them the rest of their lives."
