I will never resign from MKP - Shivambu
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Former uMkhonto weSizwe Party secretary general Floyd Shivambu has confirmed that he has no plans to resign from MKP.

His confirmation follows speculation about his future in the party after he was removed as the SG earlier this month.
Party leader Jacob Zuma announced that he had demoted him to an ordinary member of parliament following his trip to Malawi to visit wanted fugitive Pastor Shepherd Bushiri.
Briefing the media on Thursday, Shivambu said he did not intend to resign from the party.

"I have not resigned from uMkhonto weSizwe, I'll never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe. The constitution of uMkhonto weSizwe says that members are not allowed to participate in activities and programs of political parties whose aims and objectives are opposed to the objectives of the uMkhonto weSizwe.
"I am not resigning, I said I'll never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe and I still stick by the decision and the communication that I made that it was the best decision ever to join uMkhonto weSizwe and I spoke about it earlier that how would you replace an opportunity to learn in six months things that couldn't learn in 10 years."
He further told the media that he will now hold a nationwide consultation to decide whether to form a political party.
" If uMkhonto weSizwe believes that going to listen to the people violates the Constitution, it'll tell me that listening to the people is a violation of the Constitution. I'll not resign. I said I'll never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe, and I still stick by the decision and the communication that I made, that it was the best decision ever to join uMkhonto weSizwe.
"Over the next few months, we will be consulting all the traditional and church leaders, we will be seeking the wisdom of ordinary South Africans, including Michael Nkuna, Irvin Khoza, Patrice Motsepe on the need to form a new political party. If yes, what should be the values of that political party and what should distinguish it from other political parties."
Shivambu said any consultation process also needed to answer how a new political party should be funded.
"We do not want to do that as a personal project or a group of friends. We will be going to the ground to speak to the people. Next week, we are going to announce the leadership core of the consultations."
