Iconic SA designer Carrol Boyes dies

Iconic artist and designer Carrol Boyes has died at the age 65 following a year-long battle with cancer.

Boyes was the founder and CEO of the world-renowned Carrol Boyes retailer in Cape Town.
She founded her home décor company in 1991 and her products are available in over 30 countries around the world.
Company spokesperson Michele Stuurman says she was admitted to hospital on Wednesday night where she peacefully passed away.
"She passed away last night at about 21:00 and she passed away peacefully and that is what Carrol wanted.
"We are very, very saddened by the loss."
Combining her artistic flair and talent in sculpture, her signature designs often took the human form.
"She loved the human body, as you can see it coming through her various designs. She loved the human body and that is where she got he inspiration from," says Stuurman.
"Her designs are very unique and succeeded in putting South African on the design-map."
The businesswoman leaves behind two brothers, two daughters and granddaughters.
"Carrol will be remembered for he love, her stories an her quirky creativity. Carrol leaves our nation with a legacy of excellence, unity, empowerment and pioneering, functional art."
