IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa heading to Parliament
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has confirmed that its leader, Velenkosini Hlabisa, will fill the vacancy in Parliament left by the death of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

The party made the announcement on Monday.
IFP founder and President Emeritus Buthelezi died last month at the age of 95.
Halbisa, who currently serves as an MPL in the KZN legislature, will be replaced by Reverend Musa Zondi.
Blessed Gwala will leave his position as chief whip to become the leader of the official opposition in the KZN legislature.
IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the appointments are with immediate effect.
"The NEC has taken these decisions consistent with the party’s smooth leadership transition and believes that these changes will take forward the legacy and life’s work of Prince Buthelezi, entrench party unity, and consolidate the IFP’s onward march to the 2024 national and provincial elections.
"The IFP reiterates its confidence in President Hlabisa and wishes him well in his responsibilities as the IFP parliamentary leader."
