The City of Tshwane on Wednesday said there had been a slight improvement in the water levels at the Laudium and Atteridgeville reservoirs overnight.

Many residents have been without water since the weekend.

This led the city to restrict water supply to certain areas to allow the Laudium and Atteridgeville systems to recover.

Tshwane's spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said the cause of the water outage is still being investigated.

"The team is still investigating the cause of a sudden drop in both systems’ reservoir levels, which started over the weekend. So far, the team has not been able to identify any visible leaks on both systems.

"The city is once more urging residents to use water sparingly and refrain from filling their storage tanks to allow the system to stabilise.”

At the Mamelodi reservoir, Mashigo said the installation work of a 300mm gate valve and two 200mm pressure-reducing valves at the Mamelodi R2 Reservoir has been completed.

"However, upon opening the supply line, a few leaks were noticeable on the coupling and the stopper. A team of artisans was immediately assigned to attend to the leaks and resumed work this morning.

"Restoration time will be communicated in due course. Our teams are hard at work to ensure that the water supply is restored as soon as possible to all the affected customers."
