The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is probing the death of a suspect inside the holding cells of Durban's Inanda Police Station.

The 25-year-old man is said to have arrived at the police station in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday to lay a complaint of assault against his relatives.
According to Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa the man was upset, claiming he been assaulted by his family.
He allegedly also threatened to kill them.
"It is alleged the person was intoxicated, drunk and uncontrollable. The police officers asked him to wear a mask and he refused; instead, it is alleged he threatened to assault police officials who then blocked him into a temporary cell with the intention to process him for arrest for failing to wear a mask."
Langa says officers went to check on him about 15 minutes later.
"They found him hanged with his own belt and he was certified dead by the KZN paramedics.
“Ipid is investigating the matter,” Lunga adds.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into the death of a woman whose body was found in a storm water drain in Harding in southern KZN.
The discovery was made yesterday in the CBD.
Search and rescue teams retrieved the decomposed body and handed it over to police.
The identity of the woman is not known at this stage.
