Jacob Zuma Foundation ‘confused’ by ConCourt ruling, will seek legal advice

A majority judgement, delivered by Acting Chief Justice Sisi Khampepe, found Zuma guilty of contempt and has ordered him to be jailed for 15 months.

The apex court found Zuma guilty of contempt of court for his refusal to comply with an order to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry. 

But the minority judgement wanted Zuma to be coerced to comply with the court if the commission’s term office has not come to an end or to refer the matter to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision on prosecution.

"We note that this judgment is not unanimous,” says Zuma’s spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi.

“We further note that other judges are saying this judgment is unconstitutional and other judges are saying President Zuma's rights are being violated by this judgment.”

He claims the ruling handed down by the highest court in the land has left the Jacob Zuma Foundation confused.

"Why do we have a situation where other judges are going ahead to rule in a manner that other equally competent judges are saying this is not the way to go? What is this enthusiasm and overzealousness to implement something which people who are not politicians and people who have the responsibility to look after the constitution are saying should not be done? We are very confused.”

Manyi says Zuma will take legal advice on the way forward.  

"President Zuma is very encouraged by what the minority judgment is saying. He is very encouraged to hear that there are people in this country that are looking and making decisions based on law.”

Zuma's daughter Dudu tweeted that her father was in high spirits and had no fear.
