JMPD nabs 225 motorists for drunk driving
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has arrested 225 motorists for drunk driving in a week-long operation across the city.

The department has vowed to intensify roadblocks and public awareness campaigns to curb the problem.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says driving under the influence remains a significant threat to road safety, increasing the risk of crashes and fatalities:
He warned that the JMPD will step up its operations ahead of the Easter holidays.
"The department will continue to implement proactive strategies, including regular and strategic roadblocks to detect and apprehend drunk drivers," said Fihla.
"We urge all motorists to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol. Plan ahead, designate a driver, or utilise alternative transportation options.
"The JMPD will not tolerate reckless behaviour on our roads and will continue to enforce the law rigorously."
