Joburg to clamp down on vehicles used to transport learners
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The City of Johannesburg has vowed to intensify metro police operations targeting scholar transport.

The city's MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun says it will intensify stop-and-search operations to test the roadworthiness of vehicles used for scholar transport, especially in the mornings.
This comes after 13 children were injured after their minibus hit a tree in Meadownlands earlier today.
"The driver has subsequently been arrested for reckless, negligent and drunk driving. Open bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle.
"This is a tragic incident that should never have happened. As a caring city, we will invest every effort into ensuring that incidents of this nature become a thing of the past," says Sun.
The Gauteng MEC of Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has also expressed shock at the incident.
