Joburg hawker shot in road rage incident
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A hawker was shot and injured during an altercation between a motorist and a taxi driver in the Johannesburg CBD on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Xoli Mbhele says they believe the shooting to have been accidental as the motorist was actually aiming his firearm at the taxi driver.
"The taxi driver pulled the driver out of his car and physically assaulted him. The driver of the Toyota Corolla drew his firearm and shot one of the hawkers selling clothes in the street," says Mbhele, adding that its unclear what exactly lead to the road-rage incident.
The victim was shot in the lower body and is recovering in hospital.

The 36-year old man who shot the hawker reported the incident to the police himself and has been charged with attempted murder.
"The driver of a taxi was arrested for assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm, while the driver of the Toyota Corolla was arrested for attempted murder and his firearm confiscated," Mbhele says.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Thursday.
