Kouga region to implement water shedding from Monday

The Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape will start implementing water shedding in the various towns in the region from Monday.

Taps in Humansdorp, Jeffrey's Bay and St Francis Bay will be turned off between 10am and 4pm every day as part of efforts to save water.
This as Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality officials held further emergency meetings on Monday in an effort to stave off the looming threat of “day zero”.
The area relies almost entirely on the almost-empty Churchill Dam for water.
Construction work has also began on communal water collection points across the city in a tangible reminder that day zero is drawing ever closer.
The metro’s spokesperson Luvuyo Bangazi says it's a precautionary step in the event of water running out in certain red-zone areas.
"These water collection points there will be places where residents can collect water for use at maximum of 50 litres per day per person in a household. It is a precautionary step in the event of water running out in secondary red zone areas, we hope that this doesn't become necessary.
“We urge all residents and water users to reduce water consumption so we can push back day zero."
