At least seven killed in flood-hit Eastern Cape

At least seven people have been killed in the Eastern Cape floods, the provincial government said on Tuesday.

Six bodies were found in Decoligny Village in Mthatha, while the seventh body was recovered at Tsolo near the Bedlana River.
At the same time, the search for a school bus that was swept away by floods in Mthatha is still ongoing.
The inclement weather has also caused significant damage to road infrastructure and the displacement of residents, while scores of houses have been submerged.
"These losses occurred amid intense cold and flooding conditions that have severely affected several communities in the province. However, the fatalities have for now been reported from various areas at the OR Tambo District," the provincial government said in a statement.
"As the weather persists, the province’s priority is the safety and well-being of residents, while
working to mitigate damage to infrastructure and restore essential services."
