A scheduled meeting between parents and Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The meeting followed Monday's protest by pupils and parents against racism and sexual harassment at the school.

The Randfontein school hit the headlines after a fight broke out between pupils amid accusations of racism.

The South African Human Rights Commission has since started an investigation into the allegations.

On Thursday, parents gathered at the school's sports grounds, hoping to hear more on measures that will be implemented as pupils are currently attending classes remotely while the issues are attended to.

There was tension between black and white parents, with black parents stating that they were being told to stand on the side of the pavilion whereas some white parents and individuals were standing on the actual sports ground near the podium.

One angry parent insisted that there was still racism at play.

Other parents were also upset that Lesufi had not arrived by 6pm when the meeting was set for 5pm.

The rainstorm broke out just before Lesufi arrived and most of the parents were seen leaving the sports ground.

"The meeting will be moved to Sunday, I will meet with the SGB to determine an appropriate meeting before you go to bed this evening you will get detailed information through the school communication channels,' said Lesufi.

"I want to apologise for this. It was the weather, not me that was delayed, it was a very dangerous storm when we were coming this side, we had to actually stop."
