Lesufi releases 47 forensic reports, vows action
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has made 47 finalised forensic investigation reports public on Thursday.

Lesufi released the forensic reports that were referred to the Public Protector, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the National Prosecuting Authority for investigation.
The reports from multiple departments covered a range of discoveries including the alleged abuse of state resources, irregular and unauthorised expenditure, theft, unfair labour practices, ghost employees and suspected fraud.
Lesufi said all provincial government departments have committed to fully implementing the recommendations from these reports.
He assured the public that those found guilty will face consequences.
“Key corrective actions from forensic reports will be implemented; improvement of weak or compromised internal controls, institution of disciplinary action, registration of criminal cases with the South African Police Service and recovery of funds from employees,” said Lesufi.
The Premier said his office has made progress in supporting the provincial government on prioritising fund recovery following the reports findings.
Lesufi said that from R3 million that was lost due to financial misconduct, R2 million was recovered.
“This means that almost 60% of the value lost through fraud and corruption was recovered by the GPG departments in the last quarter," said Lesufi.
“Overall, based on these 47 reports, approximately 88 people have faced consequence management, and 55 criminal cases have been registered with law enforcement by the departments. This reflects the GPG’s commitment to accountability.”
Lesufi said the provincial government and the Special Investigating Unit also conducted lifestyles which led to the discovery of 37% of Accounting officers including heads of Departments and CEOs being categorised as high-risk or failing the assessment.
He said last week he removed three heads of Departments after they failed to comply with the audits.
“In line with due processes, officials whose lifestyles were found to be inconsistent with the audit findings were given an opportunity to provide explanations," said Lesufi.
In response to these findings, the provincial government in collaboration with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), which conducted the audits, have notified the affected employees, directing them to address and rectify the identified discrepancies promptly to avoid potential disciplinary measures.
