Lesufi suspends Community Safety HOD and CFO
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has suspended Nontsikelelo Sisulu, the head of the Department of Community Safety, and Mduduzi Malope, the chief financial officer, with immediate effect.
The suspensions follow the conclusion of a forensic investigation by the Provincial Forensic Audit Unit within the Office of the Premier, which uncovered financial irregularities in the department.
Lesufi said on Tuesday that the suspensions are meant to safeguard the department’s integrity.
Gauteng Health spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says the suspensions are a precautionary measure to ensure fair and unbiased investigations.
"The provincial government is committed to restoring public trust by upholding the highest standards of integrity. We maintain a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and misconduct."
Lesufi added: "Through proactive and corrective measures, we will strengthen governance, ensure the ethical and responsible use of public funds, and safeguard the interests of Gauteng residents."
An acting HOD and CFO are yet to be appointed.
