Limpopo police officer arrested for possession of drugs, ammunition

A police officer has been arrested after drugs, a service pistol and ammunition were found in his possession.

The 38-year-old police sergeant was arrested in the Mankweng policing area in Limpopo after a car chase with police.
Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says the officer was arrested by members of the Limpopo highway patrol unit after failing to stop when pulled over.
“A car chase ensued and shots were allegedly fired from the said vehicle towards the police who returned fire, injuring the police member. The other unknown number of suspects got out of the vehicle and fled.
“The vehicle was searched and some sachets of drugs, a service pistol ,3 magazines with ammunition were found and confiscated.”

The police officer is under police guard in hospital.
He will face charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of drugs, reckless and negligent handling of a firearm and reckless and negligent driving.
Thirteen other suspects were also arrested during the intensification of festive season operations on Wednesday.
The other suspects were arrested on charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties, possession of house breaking implements, stock theft, illegal hunting, perjury, possession of fraudulent documents, dealing in drugs, and possession of illicit cigarettes.
