Limpopo records 3.7% decrease in reported rape cases

Limpopo police commissioner Thembi Hadebe has announced a decrease of 3.7% in reported rape cases in the province between January and March.

This is 40 fewer reported rape cases compared to the same period in 2024.
Out of 589 suspects arrested in for to sexual offences, 244 suspects were arrested in connection with rape.
On Wednesday, Hadebe announced the provincial crime stats for the fourth quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
"Eight individuals have been sentenced to life imprisonment while 29 offenders have collectively received a staggered 252 years of imprisonment for heinous crimes such as rape, sexual assault, sexual rape, violations of protection orders, and related offences,” she told the media in Polokwane.
The province recorded 1,039 rape cases between January and March 2025.
In 2024, 1079 rape cases were reported during the same period.
