Limpopo speedster nabbed for clocking 209km/h on N1

A motorist speeding at 209km/h in a 120km/h zone has been
arrested on the N1 freeway near Mokopane.

The driver of a white Volkswagen Golf R was arrested on Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of motorists arrested for excessive speeding in the province to six since the beginning of the festive month.
The spokesperson for the department, Tidimalo Chuene says the driver is being detained and is scheduled to appear in the Mokopane Magistrate's Court soon.
"Our message is very clear as a department: speeding will not be tolerated on our roads. The consequences are severe, so please exercise caution for, follow speed limits and avoid devastating road crashes,” warned Chuene.
On Monday, four people tragically died following a crash involving an Audi Sedan and bus on the N1 stretch road between Sasol garage and the Baobab Toll Plaza in the Vhembe District.
The deceased included the driver of the sedan and three occupants, whereas some passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries.
