The event, which is hosted by Minister of Science and Technology, Blade Nzimande, is geared at providing a platform for young people to influence the country's science, technology, and innovation policies.

SRC president Kamogelo Poto, a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command, says Nzimande failed to address pressing student matters during his tenure as Higher Education Minister.

At the same time, Thabo Tshitavha, a leader of African National Congress Youth League, says they have lost hope in government's ability to uplift young people.

"In this community, we are not having any infrastructure or industrial zone within Mankweng in terms of production," he says.

"We are not having the mission to train our people to make sure that our people are skilled. So, whatever that they are going to say is just part of the field which they have been doing, so we will not be surprised if they say nothing."

Tshitavha, who is a leader of South African Student Council Organization (SASCO) in Limpopo, says the event must effectively address challenges faced by the youth.

"I think what is important, it shouldn't just be a dialogue whereby we just speak, and nothing is implemented," he says.

"Firstly, the minister should listen to the issues that are on the ground because I think that the people who would come to a program like this would be people who are really concerned about what is happening."

The event has continued without disruption.
