Zindzi Mandela passed away in a hospital in Johannesburg at the age of 59 on Monday.

She was the daughter of former president Nelson Mandela and the late struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

She was also the country’s ambassador to Denmark.

Sisulu says Zindzi’s life, as was the case with her mother, has left an indelible mark on the country and its people.

“She lived her life in a way that will leave a mark forever very much like her mother. She was very vocal about how she felt and she was very determined that her mother’s memory would not fade. Very feisty, with her mother’s right, because she spent more time with her than anybody else. Every mother’s dream child.”

Details of the cause of death are still unknown, but Sisulu says the family will know as soon as the results of the autopsy has been released.

Mandela is survived by her husband and four children.
