LISTEN: Placement of grades 1, 8 in Gauteng to start on Friday
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed the placement period
for grades 1 and 8 will begin on Friday.
GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona says parents will be notified by SMS of offers or successful placements.
“Parents and guardians with offer of placement will then have to accept an offer within 7 days. However, if your child or children are placed at a certain school, this will be regarded as a successful placement to the mentioned school only and here will be no accept an offer in that regard.”
However, Mabona says that certain schools have received an overwhelming number of applications that exceed the capacity of learners that they can afford to accommodate.

The schools in the high-pressure areas that have over 1 000 applications, but limited capacity include: Hoërskool Langenhoven, Parktown Boys High School, Hulwazi Secondary School, Jeppe High School For Boys and Hoërskool President.
