Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed the arrest and court appearance of a suspect in connection with the murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.

Magaqa was brutally shot and killed a year ago following an ANC branch meeting in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Today there was an appearance of a suspectm who is suspected of murdering Sindiso Magaqa. He is not the last one, we are still hunting down more people,” Cele told the media in Durban.

He said the suspect appeared in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
"What is interesting is that he is linked to six murders including in Gauteng. He is a real 'nkabi'. He is not the last one. We are still hunting some other people that are linked.”
Cele applauded the multi-disciplinary task team tasked with investigating political killings in KZN for the inroads it has made since it started its work 2017.
The team, which also includes members of the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), has managed to arrest 28 suspects linked to various killings in the province.
“Those cases tell us one thing, that this team in a short time has done good work. Out of the people that have been arrested, three have been sentenced. One to 10 years, another to 15 years and the other one to 18 years in prison,” said Cele.
